One Year Remaining

I found a wedding planning timeline, and at this point in time, the following should be done:

1. Announce your engagement to friends and family -- We got engaged almost a year ago, you are all aware of that, right? DONE.

2. Choose your wedding style and formality -- Semi-formal. DONE.

3. Set a tentative date (this may change depending on venue, vendors, etc) -- We have two tentative dates at this point in time 9.14.2012 (this would be a Friday, and would be significantly cheaper and would also be our sixth anniversary) or 10.13.2012 (this is a Saturday, more expensive, but the date is a reference to one of our favorite television series...that's not nerdy right?). DONE.

4. Establish a budget -- DONE.

5. Shop for engagement and wedding rings: Engagement ring has been on my finger since Dec 2010. Wedding rings can wait a bit. So, DONE....sort of.

6. Prepare provisional guest list -- We need to get estimates on family still; this will determine how many friends we can ultimately invite. TO DO.

7. Select your bridal party and wedding day assistant: Bridal party is semi-determined. I assume the wedding day assistant is the coordinator provided by the venue. Unless someone wants to volunteer? TO DO.

8. Decide on a ceremony site -- We want the ceremony to be outside, in the same location as the reception. So, I guess that's TO DO. We have a list of potential venues prepared, but haven't looked at them yet.

9. Choose a caterer -- I assume most venues do catering on-site. But, since we haven't picked one this is still TO DO.

10. Shop for your dress -- I have looked at a few dresses online, but haven't been to the store yet. TO DO.

11. Select bridesmaids gowns -- TO DO.

12. Begin procuring vendors -- TO DO.

  2. These are things that should be done a whole year ahead of time. There are like...four more lists for 9 months out, 6 months out, etc.

  3. Pftt - I did it in 6 months ;)

http://www.weddingwire.com - I followed their checklist, and my Mom's suggestions.

Find your venue, book it for the day, then go through your vendors (I did officiant, cake, photographer, then dj).

Some venues have a day of coordinator you can hire (like at Evergreen, I hired Brooke for the day). Otherwise, you give the job to a friend (not a bridesmaid most likely), or hire someone outside of the venue. I highly recommend it!

  4. I also attempted to follow weddingwire.com's checklist. It worked fairly well. I would say the most important choice now is the vendor, which I only found five months before the day. I don't recommend that, since waiting meant they dictated our date, not the other way around. Everything else will fall into place from there.
